Carrie 王佳薇 With the development of science and some of the most high-tech items in human history, many scientists have started to fret that although those developments have made our life easier, they make people start to ignore the beauty of nature and decrease the time shared with family. Yet many modern advances have brought advantages. Take the Internet for example. With the Internet, we can learn more about nature and keep intimate touch with our parents and friends. So, I think most of the changes have made our lives better. In the 19th century, a great American industrialist, Henry Ford, greatly contributed to the development of the automotive industry which has given us great convenience and autonomy. After he invented the Model T and the assembly line, Ford actually turned vehicles, which had only been used by the very rich, into everyday tools for ordinary people in the United States, and now around the world. What’s more, cars not only brought the United States the fame of being “a country on wheels,” but also sped up the American lifestyle, a pattern that played a positive role in its economic triumph. Objectively, the spread of vehicles hastened the process of industrialization and had a profound influence on modern society. Even though traffic accidents take place every day and gas emissions do harm to the environment, who can deny that this change is not good? People should appreciate the utilization of cars, instead of criticizing the automotive trend as materialistic. Making our lives better is the utmost motivation of modern society. I always believe that paradoxically, change is the only route to stability and freedom. If we hadn’t believed that, I’m sure people would still be living the same life as our ancient ancestors did. So we all should appreciate such changes. |
