Sailing center to be protected
    2011-05-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO has announced a series of measures to protect the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.

A venue for the 29th Olympic sailing event and the 13th Paralympic sailing event in 2008, the sailing center has been surrounded by an increasing number of commercial buildings and witnessed a decline in its sport and culture.

The city will designate a key protection area at the land and sea parts of the center and build a control area, in which no new buildings will be allowed and existing buildings will be forbidden to change facades without government permission.

In addition, the city will start applying to have the sailing center included in the heritage protection list of Shandong Province and the national key heritage protection list.

Sports and cultural activities featuring sailing boats and yachts will be held at the sailing center.
