City sees robust tourist market
    2011-05-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO’s tourist industry thrived during the three-day May Day holiday.

Self-guided and self-driving tourists were the largest category in terms of numbers.

The Laoshan Mountain resort received more than 63,000 tourists during the holiday, over 60 percent of whom were self-guided tourists, according to the resort management office.

Qingdao Underwater World’s ornamental shrimp exhibition was popular with holiday makers, staging three underwater performances.

Around 60,000 tourists visited the aquarium during the three-day holiday.

In addition, the number of self-driving tourists from other places in Shandong Province increased sharply over the same period of last year, who were mainly from Weifang, Rizhao, Zibo, Yantai and Jinan.

Qingdao Polar Ocean World received 68,000 tourists during the holiday, increasing by 6.5 percent over the same period of last year, most of whom were from Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Tianjin and Jiangsu.
