` ZHONGSHAN Road is the city’s commercial center. It is now the main boulevard, filled with shops, department stores, restaurants, and cinemas. The road was built in 1901 and was called Friedrich Street by the Germans during the quasi-colonial period. The name was changed to Shandong Road when it was returned to the Chinese in 1922. In 1929 it was renamed Zhongshan Road in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.(Tina Chen, Fan Zeshun) |
