IMF chief accused The leader of the International Monetary Fund and a possible candidate for president of France was arrested on Sunday in connection with the sexual assault* of a hotel maid after being yanked* from an airplane moments before it was to depart for Paris, police said. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, 62, was arrested on charges of a criminal sex act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment*. He had been taken off the Air France flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Saturday afternoon. 2. Lee Kuan Yew resigns Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew has resigned from the country’s Cabinet, ceding* leadership to his son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The 44-year-old Yingluck graduated from Chiang Mai University in 1988 and received a master’s degree in political science from U.S. Kentucky State University in 1990. 6. 3 charged with supporting Taliban A 76-year-old Miami imam* and two of his sons have been arrested on federal charges they provided some US$50,000 to the Pakistani Taliban, while three others in Pakistan had been indicted* on charges of handling the distribution of the funds, U.S. authorities say. 7. Israel clashes with protesters Israel’s borders erupted in deadly clashes on Sunday as thousands of Palestinians — marching from Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank — confronted* Israeli troops to mark the anniversary of Israel’s creation.
