A WIRELESS network now covers the entire city as the result of infrastructure construction that started last June.

There are more than 6,000 3G mobile communication base stations in the city with about 1.4 million 3G subscribers.

And more than 17,400 sets of Access Point equipment have been installed in 1,820 WLAN hotspot locations across the city, including Qingdao Airport, the Railway Station, the Exhibition and Convention Center, May Fourth Square, and a number of high-end hotels.

The wireless network has been widely used.

More than 100 police stations have been connected to the wireless network as well as 57 colleges or universities.

The network is also used in the scheduling system, the wireless camera monitoring system and the real-time traffic information system of city buses.

The city plans to install the wireless network into large residential areas as well as rural areas.
