QINGDAO aims to achieve an added value of over 100 billion yuan to its cultural creative industry by 2015, which is expected to account for 10 percent of the city’s gross output. In an attempt to become a modern ocean culture city, Qingdao will throw considerable weight behind the development of related industries in the next five years, integrating its signature tourism brands like Laoshan Mountain and its popularity as a “sailing capital.” The city will further develop its 10 competitive industries like the coastal tourism, coastal leisure industry, coastal film and TV industry and animation industry, according to the five-year plan of the city’s cultural creative industry, which is expected to be released soon. In addition, the city will accelerate the construction of more than 50 key projects like Huaqiang cultural technology industrial park. The head of the city’s culture bureau, Jiang Zhengxuan, said that regulations are being drafted concerning the development of the industry. A cultural industry development group will be established, as will a government department managing the cultural creative industry. Besides, the city will strive to be selected as a “capital of music” by the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO. Projects of high-end film and TV creation, trading and professional training will be carried out. The city will also bid to host the Qingdao international ocean cultural industry exposition and establish a copyright industry promotion center and international copyright trading center.
