Migrant worker to open painting show
    2011-06-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MIGRANT worker from Gansu Province has been preparing his own painting exhibition at a construction site in Qingdao.

A 42-year-old pipeline repairman, Ma Jinshan, started painting in construction camps and his less-than-10-square-meter dormitory from the end of last year.

Known by fellow workers as “Painter Ma,” he has completed more than 100 paintings in the past six months, which are popular with other migrant workers.

Ma was fond of painting in his childhood but never received professional training due to poverty.

He copied comic strips and read about traditional Chinese painting.

Figures and mountain and water scenery are the main themes of Ma’s paintings.

Ma said that his painting skill still needed improving and he would continue to paint with the support of his fellow workers.(Li Hao)
