CONSTRUCTION has started on 87 big projects in Chengyang District. Among these, 65 are industrial projects with total investment of 46.46 billion yuan (US$7.17 billion). These projects are expected to generate 6.3 billion yuan in tax revenue and create 36,000 jobs. These include projects in high-end industrial, advanced manufacturing and modern service industries, 18 social projects such as affordable housing, schools, cultural and sports venues, four infrastructure projects with total investment of 57 million yuan. The 65 industrial projects are mainly in areas such as corporate headquarters, modern logistics, high-speed trains and automobile manufacturing and electronic information industries. The Qingdao cultural creative headquarters base and China Television Co.’s animation city are the key projects for Chengyang to develop the high-end service industry. With about 11 billion yuan in investment, the headquarters base is expected to become the biggest single group-building in eastern China. More than 2,000 companies are expected to be based in the building and generate tax revenue of more than 4 billion yuan. The animation city, with more than 3.5 billion yuan in investment, aims to become the largest animation and movie production and distribution base in Asia. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2014 and it is expected to lure more than 200 animation companies from Asian and Western countries. Other projects include a high-speed train industrial base, an automobile equipment industrial park and other projects in electronic information, new material and energy and precision machinery areas.
