City to have more digital reading rooms
    2011-06-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE city is planning a campaign to promote digital reading rooms in local communities.

Qingdao currently has a total of 239 digital libraries in 166 communities, equipped with more than 4,000 computers.

All 13 public libraries have each set up a digital reading room.

The city’s main library has expanded its digital reading room and upgraded its computers and digital books this year. A digital reading area of more than 540 square meters is divided into a book searching room, an entertainment room as well as an e-book room for children.

Training courses on computer application are offered free of charge to the elderly, unemployed and migrant workers.

Pilot reading rooms have been established in communities in Shinan and Shibei districts.

The public reading room of Zhanshan Community in Zhanshan Subdistrict is equipped with 10M broadband access. More than 3,000 local residents have registered for the service at the reading room since its opening.(Chen Ting, Li Wei)
