THE design chosen for the 2014 Qingdao World Horticultural Expo has been unveiled by the organizing authority. Inspiration for the design is drawn from a Chinese mythological story that seven fairies from the heavenly palace travel to the earthly world. Seeing the beauty of the Jiaozhou Bay area, they pour flowers and cast seven-colored ribbons on the land. Baiguo Mountain is where the fairy flowers grow, and a flower belt will be built representing their ribbons. “The flower belt is more than 2,000 meters long running through the whole expo park,” said Wu Zhiqiang, chief designer for the expo. The whole park will be divided into seven areas, each featuring one of the seven colors of red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, blue and violet. The expo will exhibit flowers, herbs, rare species of plants and modern technology in horticulture. (Chen Ting, Zhang Hua) |
