THE West Coast of Jiaozhou Bay has been developed significantly since 1984. What was a small village is now a dynamic new town with a booming tourism industry and industrial zones. It was first included in the city’s planning in 1984. And in 1995, it was positioned as a satellite city of Qingdao. The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge and an undersea tunnel, to be open in 2011, connect the West Coast with the main city of Qingdao in the east of Jiaozhou Bay. The travel time from the West Coast to any part of the main city will cut to no more than one hour. Construction on a number of tourist projects has started in the West Coast, costing billions in investment. And an economic new zone planned for the West Coast area will take shape in the next five years. (Chen Ting, Duan Xiaodong) |
