A BOOK on the city’s 120-year history has become a hit since its release June 21.

    The book called “The City, The Story and The People” in Chinese is published by Qingdao Daily Publishing House. It is a collection of photos and essays previously run in a column in the Qingdao Daily newspaper in collaboration with Qingdao Archives Bureau.

    The book is available at a number of book stores, including Xinhua Bookstore outlets, We Bookshop on Wenhua Street and Hanjing Bookstore on Changle Road.

    The book captures the city’s history, based on substantial details provided by the archives bureau. Many stories were disclosed for the first time.

    Historical events and important figures related to Qingdao are featured in the book.

    “As well as providing historical facts, the book is written with flair,” said Cui, an employee with Xianhua Bookstore. “No wonder it sells well.”

    The 400-page book has about 200,000 characters and 100 historic photos.
