Residents’well-being a priority
    2011-07-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE city’s Party secretary, Li Qun, has set out Qingdao’s development direction towards becoming one of the most livable and happiest cities in the world in a recent interview.

Li said that Qingdao should learn from developed cities at home and abroad, making them examples for the city to follow.

In addition, the city should step up its efforts to improve the well-being of its residents by measures such as speeding up the construction of government-subsidized housing, striving for a balanced development in education, improving public medical care and increasing farmers’ income, according to Li.

Li also called for the production of more elite cultural products to meet people’s increasing demand.

He said that the city’s enterprises should move forward in innovation and improve their competitiveness.

He added that the city should make a better use of its resources in the marine industry to build a “blue silicon valley.” (Li Hao, Yu Feng)
