Work starts on public housing
    2011-07-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO started building about 10,000 government-subsidized apartments July 11, the biggest public housing project in China.

The Baishawan Public Housing Project, located near Jiaozhou Bay and on the north bank of Baisha River, occupied an area of 665,000 square meters.

The Circuit Jiaozhou Bay Expressway, State Highway 308, Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway and Chongqing Road all lead to the project that enjoys not only convenient transport but a good surrounding environment as well.

The city planned to build 760,000 square meters of housing, including 3,797 public rental apartments and 6,253 government-subsidized low-price apartments.

The project will include facilities such as kindergartens, schools, a recreational center, a community clinic, a farm produce market and an elderly home.

The project is co-developed by Qingdao Tianyi Renhe Real Estate Co. Ltd., Qingdao Zhengshang Real Estate Co. Ltd. and Qingdao Public Housing Construction Investment Center.

Other than previous practice of building by the government, this project is Qingdao’s effort in exploring a win-win solution to the building of public housing. (Chen Ting, Liu Kunfeng)
