Care for senior citizens
    2011-07-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO aims to have all its senior citizens covered by social security within a year, according to a document released by the city government.

The city government would establish health records for more than 80 percent of people aged 60 or above by 2015. Starting this year, people aged above 65 will be given free checkups.

A subsidy for the elderly will be considered for people aged 80 or above.

The city government will encourage investment in services for senior residents and strive to establish a comprehensive service industry for the elderly by 2015.

The establishment of care institutions for the elderly will be encouraged. By 2015, the city aims to bring the number of beds in these care institutions to more than 3 percent of its senior citizen population.

The city will also step up its efforts to improve the elderly people’s cultural and leisure life.

There will be a city-level activity center for the elderly by 2015, according to the document.

Each district should set up at least one activity center for the elderly of more than 5,000 square meters by 2015.

No less than 15 percent of the city’s senior citizens would be encouraged to take part in a variety of educational activities by 2015. (Li Hao, Li Lili)
