A LOCALLY made rescue capsule for mine accidents has passed a national inspection, marking the success of the first self-developed mine accident rescue equipment in Shandong Province. “I stayed in the capsule for five and a half days without feeling uncomfortable,” said 40-year-old Li Peixue, one of the 10 volunteers who stayed in the capsule for 132 hours in an experiment. Boasting five national patents, the rescue capsule can provide a shelter for trapped miners in case of accidents such as fire, gas explosion and collapse. In addition, it can provide oxygen, food and water for miners. Miners can use the telecommunication and monitoring devices in the capsule to guide rescue work. The rescue capsule project cost 1.5 billion yuan. (Li Hao, Qian Zhuo) |
