Subsidies to attract high-end professionals
    2011-08-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO has given out 12.6 million yuan as subsidies to attract high-end professionals and academicians to settle in the city at a high-end talent fair recently.

Among them, a “Qingdao Elite Project” gives 1 million yuan each to the first five recipients.

Due to his outstanding achievements in nanotechnology, Li Qingsong, president of Qingdao Haideli Nanotechnology Co. Ltd., became the first to win the subsidy.

Born in 1963, Li got his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Southern California in the United States in the 1990s. His research in nanotechnology is among the most important being done in the world today.

His research results can be used in fiber communications and giant computers, fields that turn out billions of dollars in revenue.

“I like the beautiful natural environment and business environment in Qingdao, so I decided to have my home and my career here,” he said after receiving the 1 million-yuan subsidy.

The other four recipients are Wang Fan, Xiao Zhizhuang, Wang Mengjiao and Zhang Junge, all top experts in high technology, such as new energy, biology and software.

To attract more high-end professionals from abroad, the city launched the “Qingdao Elite Project” this year.

Winners can receive 1 million yuan for starting a business and 200,000 yuan more five years in a row for scientific research.
