A GARBAGE treatment plant was commissioned recently in Jiaonan, becoming the country’s first such plant to use anaerobic technology. The new technology can generate electricity during the process and two generators are now supplying electricity to neighboring areas. Compared with traditional garbage treatment techniques, the new method prevents pollution, said Xia Baisong, general manager of the Luying Environmental Protection Technology Co. Ltd. “It is Swedish technology and is quite environmentally friendly with zero emissions,” Xia said. The first phase processes 300 tons of garbage a day and supplies electricity to about 10,000 families in Jiaonan. The company would soon start work on the second phase. The company was now exploring the possibility of turning biogas residue into organic fertilizer for agriculture, said Xia. (Wang Yuanyuan, Han Guangliang, Wang Wenhui) |
