QINGDAO has become home to two more research institutes affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), bringing the city’s number of CAS research bodies to six. The second stage of the CAS biological energy and process research institute will include an energy science and technology center, in which research facilities of biological energy, biological materials and energy application technology will be constructed. The biological research body will strive to complete three to five national-level key laboratories, industrialize more than 30 scientific research achievements, and incubate over 10 high-tech enterprises by 2015. This will generate more than 5 billion yuan. The CAS software research and development base is eyeing a comprehensive R&D base in which innovative and competent high-tech enterprises could be fostered. The CAS acoustics research and industrial park in the city plans to establish three to five high-tech companies within three years, aiming at an influential acoustics industrial park in the country.
