James Baquet DESPITE being highly developed, Shenzhen continues to surprise me with the amount of green space available to explore right in the midst of the urban environment. On a blistering hot day recently, my wife and I went to Evergreen Resort (青青世界). Although we didn’t have enough time to explore it in depth, even a cursory visit revealed unimagined wonders. The best principles of environmental design were used, making its location at the foot of Nanshan Mountain, and overlooking Moon Bay, not only beautiful, but also healthy and even educational. At the Visitors’ Center there are several restaurants, a hotel, and a conference center. There are also family cabins and tree houses to rent. The place is filled with family activities, from swimming and hiking to pottery-making and rope courses. Kids can view butterflies close-up, visit a tropical rainforest environment, or try the rock wall and obstacle course. Mom and dad won’t be left out either. There’s plenty of shopping to do, and a foot massage is available in the hotel for those worn out by the mountaineering course. Park entrance is 50 yuan for adults, 25 for kids under 1.5 meters, and free for those under 1.2 meters. Hotel guests are given passes for resort activities. “Remote” as it is, getting there is easy. Bus 369 runs from Window of the World Metro Station on Line 1 (Luobao Line) and Line 2 (Shekou Line) right into the resort’s parking lot. |
