A Letter from Princeton(Li Laiyin graduated from Shenzhen Middle School and is now studying at Princeton University in the United States.)

Dear Readers,

You may have heard me mention this before, but the moment is officially here: I am finished my summer internship. There will be no more getting up at 5 in the morning, wearing a tailored suit, or jogging towards the subway entrance. Manhattan, New York is a fast and polluted place; my summer here has been both challenging and productive. Now, however, I have packed and cannot wait to start my vacation.

As this day approached, many of my fellow interns started to exhibit anxiety over the outcome of the internship.

In my opinion, they were wasting their time, time that could have been spent finishing a project for our managers, having fun, or both. You see, from a young age, I discovered that there are only so many things that are in one's control, and, thus, as long as one does one's best at those things, everything else shall fall into place. Everything works out in the end.

For example, I never thought I'd enjoy the competitions, yet every time I stepped into the spotlight, I did so with confidence and humility; I've gradually grown to like media and television related work, and consider it a hobby that also provides opportunities for me to meet and learn from others.

Or consider, a more simple example: today, for the first time this summer, I missed my subway stop as I was daydreaming; the extra walking and time it took for me to get back to my dorm room though was not only good exercise, but relaxing in a way (after all, my internship just ended). So, getting back to my original point, I don't think worrying helps matters.

In fact, one tends to perform worse at tasks when one is nervous. And as long as one has done all that was in their power to achieve what they want, I am sure they will receive what they deserve in the end.

On a different note, I hear that the Shenzhen subway stations are complete! I still remember the construction that was taking place right next to my home; it will be a visual and practical relief to see the city as it is now. Additionally, there are quite a few exciting events taking place in Shenzhen; make the most of it if you are there already and see you soon!

Sincerely, Laiyin
