The search for beautiful scenery in autumn
    2011-10-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AUTUMN is a great time for both photographers and travelers. Here is a list of places in China where one can enjoy breathtaking natural beauty.

Genie in Sichuan

Genie Scenic Spot, located in Litang County in Sichuan Province, is at the center of Genie Mountain and is surrounded by mountains, virgin forest, grassland, lakes, hot springs, monasteries and Tibetan flavor, which make it a stunning natural scenic spot.

With an area of nearly 500 square kilometers, the main attraction is the peak of Genie Mountain, which is covered by snow all year long.

Spruces, firs and oaks dot the mountainside, while a number of waterfalls pour down.

Wild goats and chickens can often be seen on the mountains. There are more than 10 mountains above 5,000 meters.

In autumn, golden ponulus hopeiensis grow all over the mountains. The golden grasslands, blue lakes and white mountains give Genie a colorful landscape.

Lenggu Monastery on the mountain has a long history and features a special location, unique architectural style and valuable cultural relics. It’s also the perfect site to take photos of the entire Genie mountain area.

Transport: Fly to Chengdu in Sichuan Province at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, take a bus to Kangding and then Genie Mountain.

Accommodation: There is a wide selection of hostels and inns in Kangnan area, or stay with locals.

Cuisine: Try Tibetan food and wild vegetables.

Erjina in Inner Mongolia

One of China’s most arid regions, Erjina in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located on the lower reaches of the Heihe River. Erjina is home to one of the world’s three euphratica poplar forests.

The forest, surrounded by vast desert and mountains, provides a magnificent view for visitors.

At this time of year, the leaves of the euphratica poplars have gone from green to gold, shining in the crystal clear sky like sunshine.

There are a number of bridges there and the most beautiful golden scenery is between the first and 8th bridges, which usually attract a lot of photographers.

The second bridge is a special one with scenery that has barely changed since humans began to inhabit the area.

Transport: Fly to Yinchuan in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, take a bus to Erjina.

Accommodation: Yurts may not be that convenient, but can be a rare experience.

Cuisine: Try mutton, milk and homemade food.

Lushan Mountain

Situated in Jiangxi Province in eastern China, Lushan Mountain is one of the 10 most famous mountains in the country.

The mountain is known for its steepness and evocative beauty. It is part of Lushan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 and a prominent tourist attraction.

At this time of year, red maples, golden leaves of Chinese parasol trees and green pines wave under the crystal blue sky, while all of the beautiful scenery reflects itself in the clean and clear lakes.

Bunches of wild chrysanthemum flowers, elegant purple or shining golden, add to the charm of Lushan Mountain.

Transport: Take a train to Jiujiang in Jiangxi Province at Shenzhen Railway Station in Luohu District, take a bus to Lushan Mountain.

Accommodation: There is a wide selection of hotels and hostels in Jiujiang.

Cuisine: Stone fish is popular in the Lushan area. Also try mushrooms, wild vegetables and frogs.
