QD eyes strong emerging industries
    2011-11-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO will focus on the development of six emerging industries in the next five years, aiming to bring their output to more than 600 billion yuan by the end of 2015.

The industries are information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new material, new energy, biomedicine and energy efficiency.

“The city will strengthen the six emerging industries on the basis of upgrading its seven industrial clusters,” said Xiang Yangqing, director of the city’s economy and information commission.

The city’s seven pillar industrial clusters, covering home appliances and auto and train production, have seen five years of rapid development, contributing to the city’s industrial output, which exceeded one trillion yuan last year.

The city will build a digital industrial park and an information industrial park respectively in the east and west of Jiaozhou Bay during the coming five years.

To develop the high-end equipment manufacturing industry, the city will construct five industrial bases, covering production of ships, autos and key auto parts, as well as aviation equipment.

Three industrial chains will be fostered to boost the development of new material industries, covering polymer, energy and electronic information.

In the development of the new energy industry, a wind power industrial park will be built in the north of Jiaozhou Bay.

The city will strive to achieve a complete industrial chain in the biomedicine industry, covering research, testing, production and service.

In addition, the city will step up its efforts to develop sea water desalination projects.

The city has introduced nine cooperative projects this year, which total investment of 13.6 billion yuan.

In addition, 48 key projects in the six emerging industries worth a total of 110 billion yuan have been signed.
