The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released the country's first super-computing development index in Qingdao. The development index consists of six evaluation indicators including research output and development and professional education in the super-computing industry. The center at CAS had eight sub-centers last year, driving the fast growth of the index for the past five years. CAS also unveiled the top 100 supercomputers in China, of which the Tianhe 1 A at the national super-computing center in Tianjin ranks first. Beijing-based Dawning Information Industry Co. Ltd. has maintained its leading position in the number of supercomputers produced. Supercomputers are mainly used in eighteen fields in China including Internet service, telecommunications, energy, cloud computing, electronics and logistics services.
