New projects to be built on Dagu River
    2011-11-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SEVERAL water conservation and diversion projects will be built on Dagu River.

There will be more than 10 rubber dams along the river. After construction, the gross storage capacity will reach 87 million cubic meters, an increase of 43 million cubic meters, said Sheng Yingwu, vice director of the Dagu River management office.

Meanwhile, dams will be built on Taoyuan River in the lower reaches of Dagu River to form a lake that will hold 30 million cubic meters of water. Nupocheng Reservoir would also be expanded to guarantee water supply for Jimo City.

Between 1996 and 2010, Qingdao had spent 811 million yuan on Dagu River, building 11 dams and reinforcing 4.3 kilometers of levee near the river mouth.

This has transformed the downstream area of the river into a giant underground water reservoir with a capacity of 342 million cubic meters.
