THE facilities at the city’s primary and middle schools have improved this year thanks to government investment. As of the end of October, the city had spent 1.39 billion yuan on campus safety programs. It had spent 180 million yuan on reinforcing 449 buildings at 180 schools, while 1.21 billion yuan was spent on rebuilding 729 school buildings at 257 schools across the city. The Shinan District rebuilt Qingdao No. 26 Middle School with first-class facilities, while a modern school providing 1,800 seats also completed construction in the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone. The city planned to start building 10 primary schools this year. One is expected to finish construction by the end of the year, another is halfway into construction, while six others were started in mid-November.
