Volunteers serve the elderly
    2011-12-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WANG QINGMEI, 102, may have problems in remembering people’s names, but she would be all in smiles when the volunteers from Qingdao University of Science & Technology come to her nursing home in Sifang District every week.

“This program has lasted for more than five years and the old people are very happy with it,” said Li Guangbin, head of the “Loving Society” of the university.

The volunteers come to take care of the elderly every Tuesday and Sunday afternoon, chatting with them, cleaning their rooms and helping them eat. They also hold parties during holidays.

“While helping the elderly, we harvest joy too. They would save the fruits and snacks their families brought them for us volunteers. We feel like a big family together,” said another girl.
