QINGDAO is persisting in its ambition to build a “blue silicon valley.” The area will include the science and technology city in Laoshan District, the main park of the high-tech zone in northern Jiaozhou Bay. Established in 2007, the park has become home to clusters of high-end innovative businesses. The core area of the “blue silicon valley” is home to clusters of universities, research and development institutes and high-tech enterprises. Besides, the area is blessed with a sound ecological environment. The city’s ambition to develop its ocean economy is based on its advantage in being home to around 30 percent of the country’s professionals in the field. The building of a “blue silicon valley” in Qingdao will give full play to the city’s rich resources in terms of research institutes and professionals to advance cooperation and integration among ocean technology, education, culture and high-tech industries. The “blue silicon valley” will be home to the country’s first and the world’s fifth deep-sea base, as well as the world’s seventh-largest ocean research center, according to the plan. Besides, more than 40 financial institutions and over 300 trust firms, law firms and consultation companies have entered the valley. (Li Hao, Yu Feng) |
