Village makes 10m yuan in ‘good luck’
    2011-12-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BOZI Village in Jimo is a famous place for producing and selling paper ornaments for Spring Festival. All 140 families in the village work in the industry.

“Although business is not as good as it once was, there is still much demand, so villagers have been busy since summer. The wholesale price is from 0.5 yuan to 30 yuan for each and the total sales volume is expected to reach more than 10 million yuan,” said Xiao Yongzhen, Party chief of the village.

“It seems very simple to make an emblem painting with the character ‘Fu,’ but there are a lot of things to be managed during the whole process, such as the materials, timing and design. For example, I went to Hebei, Henan and Zhejiang provinces several times this year to prepare materials and made more than 80 types of design. Clients can find everything they want here,” said Xiao Shuling, one of the villagers.

The Lancun township government also carried out a series of preferential policies to support the village, encouraging the villagers to research in other parts of the country. At present, there are six families who have more than 1 million yuan in sales volume a year and their products are sold in more than seven provinces. “The six families also received more than 2 million yuan in loans from the bank this year with help from the local government and the money would be used to upgrade their facilities and introduce high-technology machines to expand their business,” said Xiao.

The average annual income in the village is approximately 11,000 yuan a year. (Wang Yuanyuan, Qian Zhuo, Sui Xinhai)
