13 nurses take care of sick child
    2011-12-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

YE PING is a 5-year-old motherless girl suffering from serious burns, but 13 nurses are taking care of her at Qingdao Central Hospital.

Ye’s home is in Huake Village in Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province. Two years ago, her mother accidentally poured boiling water onto her, causing serious injuries. When her father, Ye Chenggong, tried hard to rescue her, her mother left home. Although Ye’s life was saved, her body stopped developing. In April, she came to the hospital for treatment.

Ye Chenggong had no relatives in Qingdao and had to support himself by working in inns and garages. The hospital learnt about their situation and gave them a single room so that Ye Chenggong could look after Ye conveniently.

However, it was not easy for a man to take care of a young child, so several nurses founded a “mother team” to take care of her in turns. Apart from basic nursing services, they also help her eat, wash and read stories. Ye has had her 13 “mothers” for about eight months.

Doctors also bring homemade food for Ye. Many of them also help Ye Chenggong pay the medical fees.

A resident, Li Jiewen, has launched an online campaign for Ye. Seven netizens started a small group who each donated 100 yuan a month to cover her living expenses. The campaign has drawn wide attention and an increasing number of people are coming to visit. So far, donations for Ye have reached more than 140,000 yuan.

Ye and her father will stay in Qingdao for treatment. “I had never expected people to be this kind. I thank everybody who has helped me and my daughter,” Ye Chenggong said.
