A RESIDENTIAL project settling former residents near New Qingdao Railway Station began Dec. 17.

The Haiyi New Town project, invested by Qingdao Haichuang Developing and Construction Company, will occupy an area of 38.5 hectares on Cang’an Road in Licang District.

It will settle about 7,000 families. The total construction area is 935,000 square meters.

The old residents, most of whom are retired workers, had been living in poor housing. About 2,700 families lived in a home of less than 45 square meters. The smallest home is only about 20 square meters.

A primary school, two kindergartens, a sports center, a culture center, a clinic and a home for old people will be built in the residential project.

The project will be completed in March 2014.
