When I started working as an English teacher at a school in Dongguan, I had a negative attitude because I thought my life was not as good as others. So I would spend my time chatting online, watching South Korean television and shopping. I would feel empty before going to bed every night. I thought the world owed me more than I was receiving. I started doubting and even hating everything about life. I even thought I was too good for the school I was teaching at. My friend, Barry, listened to my complaints. Then he patiently helped me analyze my situation. After listening to him, I realized my problems were caused by my own attitude, my lack of direction, lack of endurance and laziness. I took Barry’s advice to be more positive. I carefully prepared every lesson, passionately gave lectures, seriously checked assignments and patiently answered questions from each student. As a result, I found my students becoming more interested in my English classes. I also decided to use my free time to polish my English. I have been carrying out the plan, such as speaking English with my friends more often, reading Shenzhen Daily every day, writing English articles, and translating passages. Moreover, I joined an English club. Now, my free time has become busy and colorful, and I no longer feel empty. Truly, life is a mirror. If we smile, it will smile back at us. |
