Metro Line 8 to start building
    2012-01-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CONSTRUCTION of Metro Line 8 would improve the traffic environment in east Shenzhen, said Mayor Xu Qin at an MPC meeting for the Yantian delegation Wednesday.

Xu said traffic construction in east Shenzhen would be the focus in the next five years to ease residents’ difficulty in travel.

Construction plans are now being made as infrastructure construction should not cause any pollution to the natural environment in the east. “That’s why the construction of Metro Line 8 will be more complicated. But we will try to start the construction as soon as possible,” said Xu.

Meanwhile, Xu also said Shenzhen was now considering introducing a Maglev train to the city as it was said to be stable and noiseless. “However, the technology will only be introduced after the government is sure about its safety and environment-friendliness. The price of tickets is also very important. If the cost is too high, it will bring more financial burden to the passengers,” he said.

Xu also suggested Yantian District contribute more to the city’s cultural industry.

“Yantian District has the basis to have a thriving cultural industry in Dameisha and rich tourism resources along coastlines,” he said.

“Yantian can target becoming a new creative base in Shenzhen, attracting more famous leading professionals in the cultural industry to set up studios at beautiful ecological areas,” he said.
