SOME equipment, including Metro trains, were approved for the first phase of the Qingdao Metro recently. The 24 trains are all made by CSR Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. They will also be made in Qingdao and will finish production in the first half of next year. Strict technology and standards are introduced in manufacturing.

    According to the construction department of the Metro, safety is the most important factor in the whole process. The train uses the firefighting technology in Britain, which is thought to be the best in the world. In the future, even if there is a fire or toxic smoke inside the train, passengers will be at less risk than in the same situation on any other train in the country.
