Originally, I planned to spend Spring Festival in Dongguan where I am working at a school. It is too hard to buy a ticket and all forms of public transport are unbearably crowded. Also, I know I would do nothing but eat, drink and chat during my stay in my hometown. But one day I got a call from my mother. “Honey, will you come home for Spring Festival?” “I’m not sure,” I answered. Mother was devastated. “But you promised me you would come back during this winter holiday.” Just then, I heard my father coughing in the background. Then I pictured my mother’s gray hair. Without hesitation, I told my mom I would return home within a few days. From the call, I realized that my parents were carefully counting my steps towards home. They need me the way I needed them in my childhood. So, I booked a ticket online and bought some presents for my parents. I know, parents need nothing from us but are eager to see us. Therefore, we, as the popular song suggests, should return home more often. |
