My dogs
    2012-01-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Once, I was shocked by news about a dog-eating festival.

Dogs are supposed to be man’s best friend. They protect their owners. I had read an article about a dog who rescued its owner’s family from a fire. How could humans be so cruel as to kill such a faithful animal.

Folding up the newspaper, I thought about the dogs I had kept.

Keeping dogs is a habit in my family, not just as pets but also as guards.

Rocky is the dog I miss most. He was strong but gentle. I enjoyed riding on his back when I was about 5. When he had an incurable illness and my grandfather had him put down, it was like losing a family member. But I was too young to understand what was really happening.

Dogs mean a lot to me. I will never abandon my dog or hurt it. As a popular saying goes, we humans own a lot of things, while our dogs own nothing but us. Therefore, we owe it to dogs to treat them responsibly.
