DEVELOPMENT of three recycling industrial bases, three recycling districts, 20 recycling parks and 100 recycling organizations is accelerating to promote Qingdao’s recycling economy, decrease energy costs and improve the city’s environment. Three bases The three recycling economy bases include an urban mineral model base, a seawater base, and a waste and old tire recycling base. They will be key projects for Qingdao in the next five years. A Xintiandi industrial park is approved to become one of the first national urban mineral model bases. Information management technology was introduced to the park in 2011. The seawater base will promote seawater-cooling technology to high-water-consuming companies, while the waste and old tire industrial park will promote tire recycling with self-developed technology. Three districts Laoshan, Huangdao and Chengyang districts are pilot areas for the city’s recycling economy. Laoshan District will focus on clean manufacturing, Huangdao will promote petrochemical recycling and construction of a Sino-German ecological park, and Chengyang will focus on new materials, electronic information, rubber, chemical engineering, textiles, food processing and car part manufacturing. 20 parks In the next five years, Qingdao also will promote construction of 20 recycling model parks. An animal husbandry park already is exploring a recycling chain for high-tech animal raising. 100 organizations Qingdao officials have selected 100 organizations as models for the city’s recycling economy. The areas include thermoelectricity, chemical engineering, iron and steel, construction materials, mechanical engineering and wine production. Tsingtao Beer is promoting recycling technology in its company, for example. Some 99 percent of the company’s waste is reused in production processes. (Wang Yuanyuan, Lin Gang) |
