City honors heart-warming people

THE 2011 “Moving Qingdao” award ceremony was held in the city Jan. 17.

The event honored people who most warmed the city’s heart in the past year. Honorees included policeman Wang Hongshan, bus driver Qu Shengkai, hotline staff Yang Yuting, driver Mu Chunhua, couple Jiang Qiuxiang and Chen Liang who opened a tuition-free kindergarten, head of Sifang Senior Nursing Home Yang Naifa, soldier Yu Xiaojun who risked his own life to save others, volunteer Zhou Baocun, mediator Che Chuanqing and Metro project manager Pan Tongbin.

The Blue Sky rescuing team from the city’s Red Cross Society won the team award.

“They make the city a warm place to live in and show us the true meaning of love and virtues,” a middle-aged audience member said of the winners.

The annual event has been held in the city for eight years. So far, 212 people and organizations have been awarded for their outstanding contributions to local charity.
