City to upgrade infrastructure

    QINGDAO has announced a plan on infrastructure construction for the next five years. Most heavily emphasized are urban infrastructure construction and transportation logistics construction.

    Urban roads

    According to the plan, the city will build a network of urban expressways, building more roads to connect different areas and upgrading old roads to serve drivers.

    The network will include the 3rd phase of Express Road, Xinjiang Road Flyover, Qingwei Highway, the 2nd phase of Hang’an Expressway, Zhongqing Road and Xianshan Road.

    The city’s several main roads and sub-roads will also be connected. Roads will be upgraded near the North Railway Station and the Horticultural Expo Park. Jinshui Road and Ruichang Road will be upgraded, while new roads will be built in the western coastal zone and blue silicon valley areas.

    Flyovers will be built at the intersection of Shenzhen Road and Liaoyang Road East, Hefei Road and Heilongjiang Road, Yinchuan Road West and Haier Road to ease traffic congestion.

    Public transportation

    The city will continue promoting public transportation and green commuting strategy.

    Construction on the Metro system will speed up, while Phase 3 construction is set to start.

    Another 400 electric buses will be introduced, while more than 2,000 new buses will be added.

    New bus stops will also be built, and an additional 150 kilometers of bus lanes will be designated.

    Railways and suburban roads

    Modern suburban road networks, city railway networks and harbor railways will be built in the next five years.

    Several railways connecting Qingdao with neighboring cities will start construction while railways connecting the urban area and harbors will also be built to increase logistics efficiency.

    Roads connecting Qingdao and other cities will also be built or upgraded, helping increase the efficiency of road transportation.

    Harbor contruction

    Construction on Dongjiakou harbor area and Jiaozhou Bay harbor area will be sped up, while the development of Aoshan Bay harbor area will be promoted.

    Forty-three new berths will be built at Dongjiakou, while six berths will be built at Qianwan Bay.

    Several petroleum berths will be built at Huangdao Harbor, while several berths at Qingdao Harbor will be upgraded this year.
