‘Mother river’being treated
    2012-02-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE city started treating Dagu River, which is known as Qingdao’s “mother river,” Feb. 8.

The biggest river on Jiaodong Peninsula, the river flows past five districts in Qingdao, including Laixi, Pingdu, Jimo, Jiaozhou and Chengyang.

Covering an area of 4,781 square kilometers, Dagu River flows into Jiaozhou Bay from Matou Village.

The treatment project is aimed at improving the river’s water quality, environment and functions in transport and flood control.

Three tourist areas will be constructed along the river. In addition, a total of 24 bridges will be either built or reconstructed. (Li Hao, Liu Kunfeng)
