QINGDAO will initiate efforts this year to apply for the national model title in forestation.

    The city plans to build five forest arms each covering an area of more than 667 hectares and push forward forestation and landscaping in Dagu River areas and wetland restoration.

    According to a plan, the city will complete forestation of 8,733 hectares this year.

    The planning and construction of five planned forests are due to start this year.

    The city aims to win the model title in 2014 when it will play host to the International Horticultural Expo.
