Follow the blooms (II)
    2012-02-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WITH plum blossoms still in full bloom, and peach blossoms and cole flowers coming to life, spring is the time to find the best place to behold flowers.

    Cherry blossoms

    at Wuhan University

Yes Kawazu on the Izu Peninsula of Japan is the best place to see cherry blossoms, but with the Shenzhen-Wuhan express rail about to begin operating, why not go to Wuhan to see the flower?

Wuhan University has more than 10 types of cherry tree, attracting thousands of tourists at peak time. One of its student dormitory quarters was named after the flower and called “Cherry Garden.” In March and April, cherry flowers cover the campus like pink clouds.

Even without the cherry blossoms, the scenery at Wuhan University is attractive. With a lake nearby, plenty of greenery and old architecture, the campus is one of the most beautiful in China.

Transport: Five trains leave Shenzhen to Wuchang Raiway Station every day. The trip takes from 11 hours to 19 hours. Take a taxi to Wuhan University after getting off at Wuchang Railway Station. The ride costs less than 20 yuan.

    Entrance ticket: 10 yuan

    Tulips at Taiziwan Park

    in Hangzhou, Zhejiang

Most people associate tulips with the Netherlands. But you don’t need to go that far to see a landscape full of the flower.

Taiziwan Park in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, has white, yellow, red, rose, purple and pink tulips.

From March 20 to April 10, tulips and cherry flowers are in full bloom at the park, making it a popular place to take wedding photos.

    Transport: Fly to Hanzhou from Shenzhen International Airport. Buses K4, K808, Y1, Y2, J5, Y6, Y7, 514, J9, K504, 315, Y9, Y3, 822/K822 stop at the park. Get off at Suti stop.

    Plum blossoms

    at Wuhan Plum Garden

Spring has come early this year, so there is still time to enjoy plum blossoms. Plum Garden in Wuhan is a good place to go, with more than 100 ancient plum trees and more than 300 varieties of the tree. These include a 800-year-old plum tree which is referred to as “The Forefather.”

Transport: The park is close to Wuhan University. Take a taxi to Wuhan Plum Garden at Wuchang Railway Station.

    Entrance ticket: 30 yuan(Deng Hanneng)
