PUBLIC squares, with an array of uses such as sightseeing and group activities, play a vital role in making Shenzhen a great place to live. The city boasts several well-known squares, including Civic Center Square in Futian District, Sea World Square in Nanshan District and Deng Xiaoping Portrait Square near Litchi Park in Futian District. The community gathering spots serve all ages. Elderly citizens assemble in the mornings for exercise and ball dances, while younger people gather for afternoon and evening sports such as in-line skating and skateboarding. Large, LED screens installed at some squares attract crowds whenever a major event is broadcast. Public squares are also home to street performers and artists who enliven Shenzhen’s creativity and culture. (SD-Agencies) People enjoy a fan dance at Deng Xiaoping Portrait Square near Litchi Park.
