Local student to serve Olympics
    2012-04-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A STUDENT at Qingdao University will volunteer at the London Olympics.

Chairman of the student union at the university’s medical school, Song Dalong has volunteered at national and international sports events, such as the 16th Asian Games and the 26th Summer Universiade. Song is known to his schoolmates as a “professional volunteer.”

During the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Song worked as a student journalist at Jinan Daily.

In August 2010, Song became a volunteer of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. To give a better service, Song practiced English speaking and listening every day. He even recited English sentences when walking on the street.

Song submitted his application to be a volunteer to the organizing committee of the London Olympics in September 2010, doing his phone interview July 27 last year, exactly one year before the event is to commence.

Song finally passed the interview thanks to his confidence, experience and fluent English. There were 240,000 applicants for volunteering roles at the London Olympics.
