Promoting family education
    2012-05-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

On December 12, 2010, Xin’anhu Primary School and Xin’an Middle School jointly held the opening ceremony of “The 10th Family Education Promotion Week” to promote family education in Xin’anhu Community.

The event aimed to help parents with family education and guiding their children to read more classical works. Its theme was “reading, inheriting and harmony.”

Many students’ parents attended the activity, and it seemed that most had difficulty in inspiring their children to read.

In the opening speech given by Zhou Deyang, vice principal of Xin’an Middle School, he pointed out that modern education is democratic and open, which requires schools, families and society to cooperate and establish a three-dimensional education mode. Parents should modernize their understanding of education and promote their children’s all-around development.

At the ceremony, Lu Jing, a teacher from Xin’anhu Primary School, gave a lecture on how to develop children’s interest in reading. Firstly, she pointed out that one major reason why children dislike reading is that they regard it as a chore. “Parents always choose books for their children, but they ignore the fact that children can only be attracted by books that interest them. Therefore, let children select their own books,” said Lu. Secondly, she thought it is important for parents to set a good example in reading. She believes that if parents can form a good habit of reading, their children will gradually be impressed and then love reading. Moreover, she called for all parents taking immediate actions.

After that, our school’s music club, break-dancing club and English drama club gave brilliant performances.

Before the ceremony closed, interactive games for parents and their children were also played. Through the games parents could learn more about their children.
