Proud of second place
    2012-05-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Last month, our school held its 21st sports meeting, a much-anticipated event for students.

The sports meeting included many exciting items that drew fierce competition between classes. We all felt proud that we won second place, even though we were not the champion. The most important part was that everyone in our class enjoyed the event.

For all the competitions, our athletes were in high spirits and classmates went to the playground to cheer for them. Lin Pengcheng is an outstanding high-jumper. His graceful skills won most of the cheers, but his success and second prize did not come easily. Before the sports meeting, he trained each day in his spare time.

What moved us most was that when we couldn’t find a proper entrant for the girls’ 4-by-100 relay race, a slim and tender girl who was injured in the sports meeting stood out with bravery. Although our class lost the race in the end, we tried our best and were all grateful to her.

With our athletes’ endeavors and persistence, our class gained 11 top medals, three second-place medals and one third-place medal. We didn’t become the top prize winner when the sports meeting ended. However, I don’t think who won and who lost carries much weight. In a friendly competition, the winners shouldn’t become too proud with success and the losers shouldn’t feel ashamed. A true athlete should be a graceful loser and a good winner.

In addition, this sports meeting united all of our classmates, who cooperated with and cared about each other.

In general, this sports meeting was a success for our class. We strengthened not only our bodies, but also our minds. And we got to know the true meaning of the saying, “One with a strong will and persistence can make a difference in doing everything.”

Although the sports meeting was over, the excitement and delight still linger in my mind, creating an unforgettable experience.
