A letter to the principal
    2012-05-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

深圳市新安中学 高三(11)班 曾昭君 指导老师 曹东英 汤颖

Dear principal:

I know from your speech in the opening ceremony of the new semester that our new campus, which is now under construction, will be completed before next semester. It is said that this campus will be armed with the latest education technology and facilities. But I wonder whether the needs of students with disabilities have been taken into consideration.

My concerns include the following things:

1. Do we have elevator access to each floor? It is easy for ordinary students to go to any floor on foot. But not for disabled students. So it is better to install an elevator that reaches every floor in order to reduce their trouble.

2. Signs with Braille. The blind students can have access to the library and other facilities if the signs are clear enough. By touching the Braille, they can go anywhere on their own easily.

3. Are there earphones for the hearing impaired? Students with hearing difficulties can take lessons as ordinary students if they are equipped with special earphones that can pick up teachers' voices clearly.

4. Washrooms placed near the corridor would be more convenient for disabled students. It can be difficult if the only toilet for the disabled is far away from their classroom.

5. Are the disabled students treated the same as normal ones? The disabled students don't want to be put into a different class or be treated differently than others. It will be better to let them get close to others so they can feel warm and optimistic for life. School is a place that not only teaches knowledge but also fosters love and happiness.

Thank you for reading my letter. I hope my questions will be received with careful consideration. I'm sure all the students and teachers will be happy at our warm and accessible new campus.

Sincerely, Georgina
