A boy in our village, who is 8 years older than me, began taking drugs in 2004 due to peer pressure. His addiction often caused him to lose control, shouting like a lunatic, smashing things and on several occasions, holding people at knifepoint. He borrowed money from his parents and relatives to buy drugs. But they stopped giving him money when they realized what he was doing. Then he began to cheat and steal. He was frequently in trouble with the police and his parents suffered a lot of heartache. He was sent to a rehabilitation center. Eventually, he overcame his addiction. Now he is working in a store. All the villagers, especially his parents, are proud of the way he has turned his life around. But still, we must hold him up as an example of why we should stay away from drugs. |
