No fee for applying to SUST
    2012-06-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

南科大复试免报名费

No fee will be charged for applying to enter the South University of Science and Technology of China (SUST) or attending interviews or entrance examinations, the university said in a statement Friday.

Students suffering from financial difficulties and living far away from Shenzhen can apply for transportation subsidies from the university, said Zhu Qingshi, president of the university.

Interviews will be held from 9: 30 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. and the deadline for applications is June 15. The location of the interviews will be announced on the university's official Web site.

Senior 3 students can recommended themselves or provide reference letters from their schools. All applicants, including those who recommended themselves, have to hand over their three-year school transcripts with schools' official seals and references written by the schools.

All applicants must take the National Collage Entrance Examinations (NCEE) in June. NCEE scores should be higher than the entry score for key universities and will account for 60 percent of a student's final score for admission. Interview scores and high school grades will account for 30 and 10 percent respectively.

It is the first time the university has recruited students since it was officially approved by the Ministry of Education earlier this year. According to the plan, the university will enroll 180 students from Guangdong, Shandong, Sichuan, Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Fujian provinces.

Majors offered at the university include physics, chemistry, biological information, biological technology, nonmaterial science, financial mathematics and financial engineering.

***Tuition fees at the SUST are 6,000 yuan per year, but all freshmen will receive a scholarship of 6000 yuan per year. NOT VERY CLEAR. YOU MEAN THEY ALL DON'T HAVE TO PAY TUITION FEES IN THEIR FIRST YEAR? The top 54 students will have a chance to help professors with scientific research projects and receive subsidies of 10,000 to 20,000 yuan per year. Low income students will receive additional subsidies of 10,000 yuan per year.

The university has already started holding enrollment introduction meetings around the schools and more information about enrollment can be found at www.sustc.edu.cn.
